The 'Kindle Fire' is a 7-inch tablet, which means that it's half as big as an iPad, and way closer in size to a paperback book. Thus users could prefer this device more (especially if there new to the whole digital market), as certain aspects of the Kindle i.e. size are similar to an actual physical book. However, saying that reading on the iPad could be considered easier due to the widescreen it has, as it is 9.7" wide, whereas the Kindle Fire is 8.9". As well as this the public domain, could also potentially prefer to use the iPad due to the many more interactive and engrossing apps that are available to them. Thus this device can undoubtedly be better then the Kindle due to it's built in features. On the other hand, as far as the screen quality goes the Kindle Fire is definitely on par with the iPad. In other words, as an opening move, Amazon's getting it right and passive consumers seem to agree! As by the 31st August 2012 Amazon had confirmed the fact that there had already been 5 million Kindle Fires sold.

“Kindle Fire HD also features an advanced polarizing filter to provide vivid colors and deeper, darker blacks at wide viewing angles, compared to iPad’s display, which can lose contrast” (Amazon, 2012). This just tells us how advanced technology keeps getting, as we seem to come across either something new or better through the release of any new digital product (not just of the same brand), hence the competitive market we face today!

There are certain features that the iPad possesses which the new device; Kindle Fire doesn’t seem to be able to compete with! For example they both have an HD camera but the Kindle Fire only has a front facing one, whereas the iPad has a front and a rear-facing one. Factors such as this I feel can affect the sales of the product even though they are not it’s most primary features but users do have a tendency to check the overall specification of ANY product they wish to purchase! What does this tell us about advanced technology; the iPad that was released before the Kindle Fire seems to be more advanced... are companies creating and releasing new products without researching their market and competition properly, are they back-tracking a little?
The table above, which I found online (CNet) shows an overview specification of both the Kindle FIre HD and iPad.

Hi Natasha,

I think it is interesting to compare these two products, since Apple and Amazon are the two biggest players in the eBook/eReader/Tablet sector. It can be a very important decision for publishers whether the want to publish their eBooks with Apple or Amazon and therefore they need to be very aware of the reading devices that each company sells.
Perhaps you could elaborate a little bit on this relationship between publishers and Amazon/Apple.
Of course in the mean time Apple have launched the iPad Mini, so they now compete directly against the Kindle Fire, but even if we leave that aside, you should probably mention that Apple holds 70% of the tablet market share. In your article you make it sound a little bit as if the Kindle Fire is the more successful product. Also the iPad's screen resolution is almost double as high as the Kindle's so you can't really say that they are on par. Apple’s so called retina display is one of their biggest recent innovations.
